{"id":2033,"date":"2013-05-13T10:18:02","date_gmt":"2013-05-13T14:18:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jamesg.net\/?p=2033"},"modified":"2013-05-13T10:23:37","modified_gmt":"2013-05-13T14:23:37","slug":"nest-learning-thermostat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jamesg.net\/?p=2033","title":{"rendered":"Nest Learning Thermostat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-2037\" alt=\"nest_cooling\" src=\"http:\/\/www.jamesg.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/nest_cooling-300x296.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"296\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jamesg.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/nest_cooling-300x296.jpg 300w, https:\/\/jamesg.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/nest_cooling-1024x1012.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>I wanted to take some time to write about one of my favorite new inventions&#8211; the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nest.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Nest Learning Thermostat<\/a>. \u00a0I bought my first home in Dec 1012, and\u00a0immediately\u00a0bought a Nest Learning Thermostat. \u00a0The concept came from one of the developers on Apple&#8217;s iPod team, and completely revolutionizes the thermostat.<\/p>\n<p>Installation was a snap. \u00a0I had a few questions and was able to immediately\u00a0get through to a very helpful support staff. \u00a0The website documentation was above average for most technology products as well. \u00a0My only real issue had to do with my previous thermostat, which had been wired incorrectly when the AC was installed. \u00a0The system connected to my WPA2 network quickly and easily, and the navigation during setup was very well designed.<\/p>\n<p>Programmable thermostats have been around for years, and with varying success. \u00a0If you live a life with set hours, you might have a lot of success with a basic programmable thermostat. \u00a0However, if you&#8217;re like me, the Nest can be a HUGE savings. \u00a0Here are just a few examples<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 13px;\">I work in IT, so if there&#8217;s an issue in the morning, I&#8217;ll work from home to fix it before going in. \u00a0I also go in late the days after a major code release\/update when I have to stay up at night to check on it.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Working for an airline, I travel a lot. \u00a0Sometimes I forget to set the thermostat off, resulting in 3-4 days of\u00a0unnecessary\u00a0heating and cooling.<\/li>\n<li>Days when I come home early, I can use the iPhone\/Android app to turn the temperature down before I get home.<\/li>\n<li>Just last week, I left the house and forgot to close the door to the garage. \u00a0The\u00a0door\u00a0was left open for two days, exposing the inside to hot garage air. \u00a0Due to the <a href=\"http:\/\/support.nest.com\/article\/What-is-Auto-Away\" target=\"_blank\">auto away<\/a> feature of Nest, this didn&#8217;t effect the utility usage.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you haven&#8217;t had a chance to try the Nest, I highly recommend visiting your nearest Lowes, or going online to their website!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I wanted to take some time to write about one of my favorite new inventions&#8211; the Nest Learning Thermostat. \u00a0I bought my first home in Dec 1012, and\u00a0immediately\u00a0bought a Nest Learning Thermostat. \u00a0The concept came from one of the developers on Apple&#8217;s iPod team, and completely revolutionizes the thermostat.
