{"id":482,"date":"2009-11-11T12:35:16","date_gmt":"2009-11-11T19:35:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jamesg.net\/?p=482"},"modified":"2010-05-16T16:13:16","modified_gmt":"2010-05-16T23:13:16","slug":"jailbreaking-my-iphone","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jamesg.net\/?p=482","title":{"rendered":"Jailbreaking my iPhone"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So I finally took the time to research how to jailbreak my iPhone a few weeks back, and I thought that I would make a post on some of the cool apps that you can get from a jailbroken iPhone that you can&#8217;t get from the apple store.\u00a0 Mine was jailbroke using tools found <a href=\"http:\/\/blackra1n.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cydia<\/strong><br \/>\nCydia is the &#8220;hacked iPhone&#8217;s&#8221; replacement to the app store.\u00a0 While the app store remains fully functional, Cydia allows users to search far more apps, as you bypass the fees that Apple charges to let programmers sell their software within Apple&#8217;s app store, and also allows you to get blocked apps, suck as GV Voice, which I&#8217;ll discuss later.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/jamesg.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/cydia.png\" rel=\"lightbox[482]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-488\" title=\"Cydia iPhone App\" src=\"http:\/\/jamesg.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/cydia.png\" alt=\"Cydia iPhone App\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>SBSettings<\/strong><br \/>\nThis is perhaps the most useful app that I&#8217;ve found.\u00a0 You simply swipe your finger across the top of your iPhone&#8217;s display and it lists several frequently accessed settings that you can flip on\/off with a single touch, much easier than going through a series of settings menu.\u00a0 Most helpful is the ability to turn off 3g when I&#8217;m on campus, since we have Wifi, no need to waste the battery.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/jamesg.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/sbsettings091b8.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[482]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-492\" title=\"SB Settings iPhone App\" src=\"http:\/\/jamesg.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/sbsettings091b8-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"SB Settings iPhone App\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jamesg.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/sbsettings091b8-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/jamesg.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/sbsettings091b8.jpg 320w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>GV Mobile<\/strong><br \/>\nGV Mobile enables you to use your Google Voice account to text message free, as well as place calls.\u00a0 The nice part about this, is that it prevents people from seeing your real phone number.\u00a0 This is helpful to those of us who have 2 or more phone numbers, as limiting everyone to only your Google Voice number empowers you to switch which phone all calls go to, screen calls, receive SMS via the internet, as well as block certain numbers at certain times of day.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/jamesg.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/GV-Mobile-1.PNG\" rel=\"lightbox[482]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-494\" title=\"GV Mobile iPhone App\" src=\"http:\/\/jamesg.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/GV-Mobile-1-200x300.PNG\" alt=\"GV Mobile iPhone App\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jamesg.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/GV-Mobile-1-200x300.PNG 200w, https:\/\/jamesg.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/GV-Mobile-1.PNG 320w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>So I finally took the time to research how to jailbreak my iPhone a few weeks back, and I thought that I would make a post on some of the cool apps that you can get from a jailbroken iPhone that you can&#8217;t get from the apple store.\u00a0 Mine was jailbroke using tools found here.
